Western Woodworkers Membership FAQ

These are the practical questions people often want answered before visiting or joining Western Woodworkers.

Who can join?

Western Woodworkers is open to anyone over 18 with an interest in woodworking or woodcraft.

Do I need woodworking experience?

No. Beginners, returning hobbyists and experienced woodworkers are welcome. The club does not run formal classes, but members are supportive and there is a broad range of experience in the club.

Can I visit before joining?

Yes. A first visit is the best way to meet members, inspect the workshop, watch a normal session and decide whether the club feels right for you.

Can visitors use tools or machinery?

No. For insurance reasons, visitors cannot do woodworking during the first visit.

What does membership cost?

Annual membership is $50. Members are also asked for a $5 weekly donation to cover morning tea.

What should I bring once I join?

Bring materials for any projects you would like to work on. Members are also encouraged to bring their own PPE and consumables where possible, although some are available at the club.

How does machinery certification work?

Members need to be certified before using machinery independently. Certification happens as needed, depending on the equipment you want to use and the projects you want to work on.

What kinds of projects can I make?

Members work on wood turning, boxes, furniture pieces, carving, repairs, tool making, gifts and many other timber projects. See what you can make at Western Woodworkers for ideas.

What should I read next?

If you are thinking about coming along, read your first visit to Western Woodworkers or Membership Enquiry.
