Woodturning at Western Woodworkers
Woodturning is one of the most visually satisfying forms of woodcraft. A plain-looking piece of timber can become a bowl, vessel, spindle, small object or gift once it is shaped on the lathe.
Western Woodworkers has lathes available for member use. As with other machinery, members need to be certified before using equipment independently.
Turning projects at the club
Members make a variety of turned pieces, from simpler skill-building projects through to more detailed work that shows the grain, colour and character of the timber.
If you are newer to turning, the club does not run formal turning classes, but you can learn informally by watching experienced members, asking questions and building your own skills over time.
What to bring
Members bring their own project materials. Depending on the project, you may also need your own PPE, consumables and suitable timber. If you are not sure what to start with, a club visit can help you ask the right questions before you join.
